EMILY FORST classical guitarist and composer

Biography

Emily Forst is a New York City based classical guitarist and composer. She first learned to play the classical violin at age five, later studying classical voice and piano. At age thirteen she began to play the guitar, first by teaching herself blues and popular styles, and later by formally studying classical guitar.

Emily holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Music Composition and Technology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. While in university, she studied under scholarship with René Izquierdo and Don Linke, as well as Yehuda Yannay, Johnathan Welstead, and Christopher Burns. She is the recipient of numberous grants awarded for the performance of her pieces, and has played throughout the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East. Emily has also written several scores for Brazilian director Diego Costa's short films.

Emily is a member of the Guitar Foundation of America, the New York City Classical Guitar Society, and performs, teaches, and writes for the guitar.
